The answer is absolute — yes, vacuum! Aside from professional carpet cleaning, vacuuming is one of the best things you can do to prolong the life of your carpet. Many people don’t vacuum regularly, and when they do, they only remove the larger soil that’s visible. We want to help you protect your investment so it lasts longer — possibly extending the time between professional cleanings.
Dirt & soil
Dirt and soil enter our homes in many ways, and it all ends up in the carpet. As we go about our day, we push that soil further down into the fibers. Every piece of soil has sharp edges that cut at the fibers; left in place, it discolors the carpet, causes premature wear, and leads to earlier replacement. Once that damage is done, it won’t go back to new — but regular vacuuming is your carpet’s best defense.
How to save your carpet
Before vacuuming, make sure your vacuum is working at its best: clear hair and lint from the brush/beater bar, use a clean bag that isn’t overflowing (which impedes suction), and check that the belt isn’t broken (a very common issue). If the attachment hose is clogged, detach and flush it with a garden hose — just be sure it’s completely dry before reattaching. For bagless vacuums, most filters are washable, but let them dry fully before reinstalling.
